New Low-Cost Airline Cleared for Takeoff in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has officially granted an Air Operator Certificate to a consortium led by Air Arabia, marking a significant step toward launching a new low-cost national carrier based in Dammam. Operating out of King Fahd International Airport, the airline is part of a strategic initiative to boost the kingdom's aviation sector. By 2030, the carrier aims to connect travelers to 24 domestic and 57 international routes, with projections indicating it will handle roughly 10 million passengers per year.
This development is expected to have a major economic impact, creating over 2,400 jobs and bolstering tourism throughout the Eastern Province. The consortium, which includes Air Arabia Group, Nesma Group, and Kun Holding Company, secured the license after passing rigorous safety and operational quality assessments. Experts suggest that the entry of this new player will likely ramp up competition in the region, potentially driving down prices for travelers even as the airline competes for market share against established local carriers like Flynas and Saudia.
