UAE Higher Education Reaches New Heights in 2027 QS Rankings
The UAE’s academic sector has reached a historic milestone in the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, with the nation’s institutions demonstrating unprecedented growth. Khalifa University has become the first in the country to break into the global top 150, climbing 30 spots to reach 147th place. Overall, 75 percent of the UAE's ranked universities improved their standing, with six institutions now securing spots within the global top 500—a significant jump from just three in 2022. Notably, the University of Sharjah made its debut in the top 300, while Ajman University entered the top 400 for the first time, signaling a rapid maturation of the country's tertiary education landscape.
This progress is largely attributed to the UAE's ability to attract international talent and foster high-quality research environments. With nine institutions ranking among the world's top 10 for international faculty ratios, the region is proving to be a premier destination for global scholars. Ben Sowter, Senior Vice President at QS, highlighted that the UAE is now one of the fastest-improving higher education systems globally. While the nation continues to excel in research output and international engagement, experts note that there remains potential for further growth in areas like academic reputation and long-term sustainability to compete with the world's most established legacy institutions.
