Early Risers Gather in Dubai to Celebrate International Day of Yoga
Over 1,600 yoga enthusiasts, including students, police officers, and families, gathered at the Dubai Police Officers’ Club this past Sunday to mark the 12th International Day of Yoga. The event, hosted by the Consulate General of India in partnership with the Dubai Police’s Positive Spirit Council, saw participants waking up as early as 2:30 am to reach the venue for a sunrise session. For attendees like Anil, a septuagenarian visiting from Delhi, and Shikha Nagpal, a Dubai-based expat who brought her young children, the pre-dawn wake-up call was a small price to pay for the collective energy and mental clarity that the practice provides.
The session highlighted that yoga is far more than physical exercise, serving as a transformative path toward spiritual growth and stress relief for people of all ages. Participants shared personal stories of how a consistent practice has fostered inner balance and resilience in their fast-paced lives. School groups, such as those from The Indian High School and Sharjah Indian School, brought hundreds of students who displayed immense enthusiasm despite the early hour, proving that the commitment to health and mindfulness is resonating strongly across generations.
Beyond the main celebration at the police club, the city saw additional festivities, including a large-scale gathering at Danube Sports World organized by Anis Sajan and The Art of Living Foundation. With over 500 participants joining in, the message was clear: yoga acts as a vital tool for healthy aging and mental peace. Whether through challenging poses or meditative silence, the collective spirit of the day reinforced yoga’s role as an essential, lifelong companion for thousands of residents and visitors in the UAE.
