UAE Leads the Arab World in Yale’s 2026 Environmental Performance Index
The UAE has officially secured the top spot among Arab nations in the 2026 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), a prestigious global ranking by Yale University that evaluates sustainability across 177 countries. The nation achieved perfect scores in waste management and eliminated bottom trawling in its maritime zones, alongside a high global standing in wastewater treatment. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, noted that this achievement is a reflection of the UAE’s long-standing dedication to environmental stewardship—a philosophy rooted in the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which now balances economic growth with ecological responsibility.
Beyond these accolades, the UAE is pushing forward with ambitious green initiatives, including a massive $6 billion solar-plus-storage project and a goal to triple renewable energy contributions by 2050. Biodiversity conservation remains a cornerstone of this strategy, highlighted by a pledge to plant 100 million mangroves by 2030, with over half that target already accomplished. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, such as AI-equipped drones for reforestation and advanced satellite monitoring, the UAE is demonstrating that strategic governance and innovation are essential to maintaining its leadership in global sustainability.
