Dubai Traffic Upgrades Set to Slash Commute Times

Tue, Jul 28, 2026(45d ago)UAE

Dubai is launching a major overhaul of four critical intersections to tackle congestion and streamline travel across the city's most vital transit hubs. By integrating a network of new bridges, tunnels, and expanded lane configurations, the Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project aims to drastically reduce travel times, cutting some journeys down from 20 minutes to just five. This ambitious initiative focuses on key corridors connecting Oud Metha Street, Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road, providing much-needed infrastructure support for high-traffic areas like Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, and Bur Dubai.

The project encompasses a wide array of technical improvements designed to maximize vehicle capacity and enhance safety. These updates include adding dedicated lanes to left-turn ramps, constructing new multi-lane bridges to bypass bottlenecks, and building tunnels that effectively separate conflicting traffic flows. For instance, the expansion of the Al Khail Road-to-Oud Metha bridge and the introduction of new service roads near Al Wasl Club are set to significantly boost hourly vehicle throughput. With several structures already open and more expected by late August, this development represents a pivotal step in the Sheikh Rashid Corridor project to accommodate Dubai’s rapid urban growth and ensure a smoother driving experience for all commuters.
