Dubai Launches Ambitious Roadmap to Secure Sustainable Food Future
Dubai has officially launched its Food Security Strategy 2030, an ambitious initiative championed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to ensure that high-quality, affordable food remains accessible to all residents. By prioritizing local agricultural growth, diversifying international import channels, and curbing food waste, the city aims to build a robust buffer against global supply chain disruptions and market volatility. The initiative, overseen by the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA), aligns with the UAE’s broader national goal of becoming a global leader in food security, utilizing cutting-edge technology and strategic public-private partnerships to safeguard the emirate's food supply.
The strategy is built upon five core pillars that emphasize sustainability, technological integration, and resilient infrastructure. Key projects include empowering local fisheries and livestock sectors, establishing cooperatives for small-scale farmers, and launching specialized platforms to attract investment into AgriTech. Beyond production, the government is committed to fostering a culture of mindful consumption to reduce waste while strengthening regulatory frameworks to adapt to changing consumer demands. By fostering international research collaborations and refining supply chain management, Dubai is positioning itself to handle the complex challenges of climate change and economic uncertainty while ensuring a reliable, healthy food ecosystem for its population.
