Dubai’s Autonomous Taxi Fleet Hits 4 Million Kilometres Milestone
Dubai’s ambitious push toward autonomous transportation is hitting its stride, with the city’s robotaxi fleet successfully completing over 7,600 passenger trips and covering a massive 4 million kilometres. Currently, a fleet of 48 active vehicles contributes to about 50 daily trips, maintaining an impressive 97 per cent customer satisfaction rate. Ahmed Bahrozyan, from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), noted that this positive reception is a crucial indicator that the public is warming up to self-driving technology. This progress serves as a key pillar in Dubai’s long-term vision to transition 25 per cent of all local transport trips to autonomous modes by 2030.
To ensure safety and reliability, the RTA has implemented a phased rollout, partnering with tech giants like WeRide, Pony.ai, and Baidu’s Apollo Go. By testing these vehicles in controlled real-world conditions, operators can refine the technology while slowly moving from supervised, safety-driver-led rides to fully autonomous travel. With the city’s population now exceeding 4 million and public transport demand surging, these robotaxis are designed to complement existing infrastructure like the Metro and traditional ride-hailing services. As the program continues to evolve, the integration of services like Uber into the booking process is making driverless transport an increasingly accessible part of daily life in Dubai.
