Abu Dhabi unveils specialised ambulances for critical and high-weight patients
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health has introduced a high-tech fleet of specialised ambulances designed to handle unique medical emergencies that conventional vehicles simply cannot accommodate. This rollout includes a dedicated mobile critical-care unit capable of supporting ECMO life-support systems, a maternity vehicle tailored for emergency deliveries and newborn resuscitation, and a reinforced ambulance designed specifically to transport patients weighing up to 300kg. These vehicles are managed through a centralized emergency medical operations hub, which provides officials with real-time data on hospital capacity, weather conditions, and ambulance locations to ensure patients are routed to the medical facility best equipped to handle their specific needs.
This sophisticated infrastructure is already showing significant results, with officials reporting a 49.5 percent reduction in response times for cardiac cases. By integrating AI-driven decision-making and live tracking across 42 healthcare providers, the system ensures that care starts the moment paramedics arrive rather than waiting until the patient reaches a hospital. Whether it is providing life-saving ventilation to a critically ill patient, ensuring the safety of a premature infant, or providing dignified, safe transport for those with severe obesity, these new resources reflect Abu Dhabi's commitment to creating a seamless and efficient journey for every patient during their most vulnerable moments.
