New Legislation Strengthens Protection of Dubai’s Archaeological Heritage
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, has enacted a comprehensive new law aimed at fortifying the protection and management of the emirate's antiquities and archaeological sites. This mandate covers all geographical areas under Dubai’s jurisdiction, spanning its land, marine, and mountainous regions. It specifically includes special development zones and free zones, such as the Dubai International Financial Centre, ensuring that no historical site is left without legal oversight regardless of its location.
The core objective of this legislation is to systematically document, classify, and preserve Dubai’s historical assets to ensure they remain safeguarded for future generations. By establishing a robust regulatory framework, the government aims to promote a deeper public appreciation for the region's cultural and architectural heritage. The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has been officially tasked as the governing body responsible for overseeing these sites, providing the necessary institutional support to organize, manage, and revitalize archaeological efforts across the emirate.
