A Symbol of Resilience: UAE Campaign Replants Gaza’s Olive Groves
A poignant initiative titled "The Last Harvest" has transformed the final batch of olive oil produced by a Gaza family before their orchard was destroyed into a powerful symbol of hope. Organized by the Palestinian brand Jenin and The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF), the campaign features this precious oil encased in a bespoke, hand-blown glass vessel designed by artist Lameice Abu Aker. While the oil itself is intended to be preserved as a work of art rather than consumed, the auction—which runs until November 11—aims to raise funds to plant 714 new olive trees in Gaza, effectively breathing life back into the land and providing a future for displaced farming families.
The urgency of this project is underscored by the staggering destruction of Gaza’s agricultural landscape, with reports suggesting that nearly 90 percent of its olive trees have been lost to the ongoing conflict. Beyond the economic impact, these trees represent a profound cultural and historical connection for the people of Gaza. By partnering with the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, the campaign offers various ways to contribute, ranging from direct donations that fund a single tree to purchasing limited-edition products. As organizers emphasize, the goal is to ensure that the next generation of Palestinian children inherits thriving groves rather than just the fading memories of a lost landscape.
