Abu Dhabi Tackles Urban Congestion with Vertical Parking Solutions
Abu Dhabi is actively exploring the implementation of vertical parking facilities to alleviate the persistent lack of parking spaces in the city’s older residential areas. Maysarah Mahmoud Eid, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC), confirmed that officials are currently evaluating these high-tech infrastructure solutions following recent directives from the Department of Municipalities and Transport. This initiative aims to address the growing strain on street parking, which has been exacerbated by office workers and non-residents occupying spots intended for local families.
Despite ongoing rumors that parking restrictions in central districts are intended to displace long-term residents, officials have firmly dismissed these claims. Instead, they emphasize that the government is focused on a strategic vision for urban development that prioritizes mobility and community well-being. By integrating vertical parking into the existing urban landscape, the city aims to balance the needs of residents with the infrastructure demands of a rapidly expanding metropolitan center, ensuring that older neighborhoods remain accessible and livable.
