UAE Expands Pension Benefits to Include Part-Time Emirati Workers

Fri, Aug 21, 2026(3h ago)UAE

The UAE's General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has officially broadened its pension framework to encompass Emirati employees working on a part-time basis across both the public and private sectors. This strategic update acknowledges the shifting landscape of the local workforce, which increasingly favors flexible, hybrid, and remote working models. Under these new regulations, any UAE national working between eight and 32 hours per week—or one to four days weekly—is now eligible for pension coverage, ensuring that these workers are not left behind as employment structures become more diverse.

To maintain fairness, pension benefits and service periods for these individuals will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, reflecting their actual working hours and specific contribution salaries. It is now mandatory for employers to register their part-time national staff and keep the Ma'ashi platform updated whenever an employee transitions between full-time and part-time roles. This initiative not only provides Emirati professionals with the freedom to better manage personal responsibilities like family care or further education but also guarantees long-term financial security regardless of how their work hours change over time.
