Official Denies Rumors of Mass Layoffs of Egyptian Workers in UAE
A senior Egyptian official has firmly dismissed recent social media claims suggesting a widespread dismissal of Egyptian workers in the United Arab Emirates. Haddad Al Gohary, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs, clarified that investigations conducted by the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai found no evidence of mass layoffs or systematic visa cancellations. While acknowledging that some individuals have faced residency revocations, Al Gohary stressed that these were isolated incidents involving violations of local immigration laws or failures to secure employment while on visit visas, rather than a targeted campaign against Egyptian nationals.
To further address the situation, officials from both nations are set to hold formal talks in October to review any lingering concerns and ensure clear communication. Dr. Anwar Gargash, adviser to the UAE President, also refuted the misinformation, noting that such false reports often surface when external parties attempt to distract from regional developments. Both governments emphasized that the diplomatic bond between the UAE and Egypt remains robust and historical, urging the public to rely exclusively on official channels for news to avoid the severe legal penalties associated with spreading online rumors.
