Sharjah’s Major Infrastructure Overhaul: Transforming Commutes to Dubai
Sharjah is currently executing a massive Dh750-million infrastructure project designed to drastically reduce commute times and congestion between Sharjah and Dubai. Initiated under the directive of the Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, this ambitious program includes the construction of five new bridges, a 500-meter tunnel beneath the Al Taawun Roundabout, and several free-flow intersections. By utilizing advanced precast concrete construction techniques, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) and the Authority for Initiatives Implementation (Mubadara) are working in parallel to ensure a targeted soft opening by November 2026.
Beyond the centerpiece tunnel, the project encompasses extensive upgrades to key corridors such as Al Noor Road, the Al Khulafa Al Rashideen intersection, and major crossings over Industrial Streets 1, 2, and 3. These improvements are set to increase traffic capacity significantly—by thousands of vehicles per hour—while creating seamless, uninterrupted routes for residents in high-density districts like Al Majaz and Al Nahda. Once finalized, this network will not only streamline daily travel to and from Dubai but also improve access to vital landmarks like the Expo Centre Sharjah, fostering a more connected and accessible urban environment for everyone.
