Dubai Inaugurates World’s Tallest Net Positive Government Building
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently inaugurated the new headquarters of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in Al Jaddaf. Known as "Al Sheraa," which translates to "the sail," this structure has been officially recognized as the world's tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive government building. During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed praised the project as a global architectural milestone, noting that it reflects Dubai's deep-rooted commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the integration of advanced technology to improve human life.
Spanning over two million square feet, the 15-story complex is a marvel of modern engineering, designed to accommodate up to 5,000 people. It boasts an array of high-tech features, including 110,000 smart sensors and a complex network infrastructure that executes nearly two million automated commands every day. The building is powered by a massive renewable energy setup, utilizing over 20,000 square meters of photovoltaic solar panels to generate more than 6,500 megawatt hours of clean energy annually. Beyond its efficiency, the facility includes comprehensive amenities such as a large auditorium, specialized training halls, a nursery, and a fitness center, all constructed as part of a AED 1.2 billion investment to set a new standard for sustainable government infrastructure.
