Abu Dhabi Police Urge Caution Against Fake Vacation Rental Scams

Tue, Jun 23, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a stern warning to residents and tourists regarding the rise of sophisticated online scams targeting those looking to book farmhouses and chalets. Fraudsters are increasingly using social media, deceptive text messages, and bogus websites to promote "too good to be true" rental deals, particularly during peak travel and holiday seasons. Authorities emphasize that these scams are designed to exploit unsuspecting customers, urging the public to be extra cautious and to avoid making any financial transactions until they have fully verified the legitimacy of the advertisement and the advertiser through official channels.

To combat these digital threats, police officials are ramping up their awareness campaigns to help the community spot the signs of cyber fraud. If you encounter any suspicious activity or believe you have been targeted by a scammer, it is crucial to report the incident immediately through the "Aman" service by calling 8002626, texting 2828, or using the official Abu Dhabi Police mobile app. This proactive approach follows similar warnings from Dubai Police, spurred by cases where victims have lost significant sums of money—such as one individual who recently lost Dh8,000 to a fake chalet booking—after being tricked into paying deposits for non-existent properties. Always prioritize official booking platforms to ensure your vacation plans remain safe and secure.
