UAE Officials Condemn Recent Drone Attack on Barakah Nuclear Plant
Following a recent drone strike near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, senior UAE officials have denounced the incident as a reckless act of aggression that flagrantly ignores civilian safety and international law. While the attack resulted in a minor fire at an external generator with no impact on radiation safety or operational personnel, the UAE government has labeled the provocation a dangerous escalation. Anwar Gargash, advisor to the UAE President, emphasized that such acts of sabotage will not succeed in intimidating the nation or derailing its commitment to regional stability and progress, firmly stating that no external entity will be able to coerce or weaken the UAE’s resolve.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) echoed these concerns, with Director General Rafael Grossi asserting that any military activity threatening nuclear safety is entirely unacceptable. In response, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its right to protect its sovereignty and civilian infrastructure, calling for an immediate end to such hostile actions. As the Barakah plant continues to serve as a vital cornerstone for the nation’s energy security—currently providing 25 percent of the country’s electricity through its four reactor units—authorities maintain that they will continue to uphold the highest international security standards while defending the nation’s territorial integrity against all threats.
