Dubai to Enhance Connectivity with New Pedestrian and Cycling Infrastructure
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled an ambitious five-year roadmap aimed at transforming how residents move across Dubai. By 2030, the city plans to overhaul soft mobility infrastructure in 25 key residential neighborhoods, including major connectivity projects near 63 public transport stations. This initiative builds on existing progress in areas like Dubai Marina, Al Rigga, and Naif, focusing on the creation of extensive cycling tracks, shaded footpaths, and secure crossings that make walking and riding e-scooters a practical, everyday option for commuters.
Beyond simply adding lanes, the project seeks to integrate these pathways seamlessly with the existing Metro and bus network. By installing better bicycle parking, improved pick-up and drop-off zones, and wider pedestrian walkways, the RTA intends to bridge the "first and last mile" gap, reducing the city's reliance on private vehicles. This shift in infrastructure is backed by strong data, as Dubai witnessed hundreds of millions of pedestrian, cycling, and e-scooter trips in 2025, underscoring a growing public demand for greener and more efficient transportation alternatives.
