Inside Emirates’ First Retrofitted Two-Class A380
Emirates has successfully completed the first major retrofit of its two-class Airbus A380 fleet, marking a significant step in the airline’s multi-billion dollar mission to modernize its cabin experience. The refurbished jet, identified as A6-EUX, recently debuted on the Dubai-to-Birmingham route, boasting an updated interior that now includes 56 Premium Economy seats, 76 Business Class seats, and 437 Economy seats. This massive undertaking required a team of 50 engineers to invest 35,000 man-hours, involving structural changes to the upper deck, such as reconfiguring galleys and plumbing to accommodate the new cabin layout.
This project is part of a larger, ambitious program that aims to refurbish 219 aircraft across the Emirates fleet by 2026. Beyond simply upgrading seats, the airline is deeply committed to sustainability; materials removed during the renovation are funneled into an upcycling program that creates unique collector’s items and backpacks for children. As Emirates continues to scale this project, with two aircraft emerging from the hangars each month, the airline is successfully standardizing its premium offerings and ensuring that every passenger enjoys the latest cabin technologies and refined comforts in the sky.
