Fujairah Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Fishing to Protect Marine Life
The Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) recently ramped up its conservation efforts by seizing 21 illegal lobster traps discovered near and within protected marine zones in Dibba. During this operation, specialized teams successfully rescued several endangered fish trapped in the prohibited gear, promptly returning them to the water. The confiscated traps were turned over to the Dibba Fujairah Fishermen's Association, underscoring the authority's commitment to curbing unauthorized fishing activities that threaten local biodiversity and disrupt fragile underwater ecosystems.
This recent intervention is part of a broader, ongoing strategy to safeguard Fujairah’s natural reserves, which serve as vital habitats for coral reefs and rare aquatic species. FEA Director Asila Al Mualla emphasized that illegal fishing not only damages critical food chains and marine structures but also poses safety risks to divers and other sea users. Through the use of advanced surveillance technology and constant monitoring, the authority is working to ensure these protected areas remain safe havens for fish populations to recover. Officials are urging the public and the fishing community to report any environmental violations by calling 800368, reaffirming that protecting the emirate’s marine heritage remains a top priority for sustainable development.
