Hiring a Domestic Worker from India: A Step-by-Step Guide for UAE Employers
If you are planning to hire a domestic worker from India, you must navigate both UAE labor regulations and specific emigration protocols set by the Indian government. Under the UAE Domestic Workers Law (Federal Decree Law No. 9 of 2022), you are legally obligated to provide your employee with fair treatment, proper accommodation, adequate meals, medical care, and timely salary payments. Before initiating the visa process, you must register on the Indian governmentâs e-Migrate portal, which is a mandatory step for workers categorized as 'Emigration Check Required' (ECR). This involves getting your documents attested by the Consulate General of India in Dubai and signing a formal affidavit confirming there is no familial relationship with the worker.
Once the initial paperwork is approved, you can apply for an entry permit through a MOHRE-approved service center. You will need to provide extensive documentation, including your residency proof, marriage certificate, utility bills, and salary certificate to meet the UAEâs minimum income requirements for sponsorship. After securing the entry permit, the contract is finalized through the e-Migrate portal, allowing the worker to receive emigration clearance. Upon their arrival in the UAE, you are required to facilitate their medical screening, health insurance, and Emirates ID application, as well as attend an entry interview at the Indian Consulate within two weeks to ensure all labor protections are in place.
