UAE issues new yellow alert for rainfall and unstable weather conditions

Sat, Aug 22, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a yellow alert for parts of the country, including Al Ain, valid until 9:00 PM today, August 22. This warning follows a bout of severe weather on Friday that brought heavy rain, lightning, and thunder to Abu Dhabi. Forecasters are bracing for the development of convective clouds, which are expected to bring not only rain but also gusty winds that may lead to blowing dust, sand, and hazardous driving conditions due to poor visibility.

While the general forecast for today remains fair to partly cloudy, residents should remain cautious as humidity levels rise heading into the night and Sunday morning. Temperatures are expected to climb, reaching peak highs of 46°C in Abu Dhabi and 44°C in Dubai and Sharjah. Following the earlier instability, local authorities had briefly shuttered parks and public facilities as a safety precaution; however, these venues have since reopened as officials continue to monitor the shifting atmospheric conditions.
