UAE Backs WHO Resolution Against Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure
The United Arab Emirates has officially endorsed a new resolution passed by the World Health Assembly, which strongly condemns terrorist attacks targeting civilians and essential infrastructure. Championed by the GCC member states and Jordan, this initiative highlights the devastating public health consequences caused by strikes on hospitals, energy facilities, and supply routes. The resolution emphasizes that protecting these vital systems is not just a matter of regional security, but a fundamental requirement under international law to ensure the continued delivery of medicine, vaccines, and clean water to vulnerable populations.
During the session, the UAEâs Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Jamal Al Musharrakh, underscored that such acts of aggressionâspecifically citing drone and missile strikes by Iran and its affiliatesâmust never be normalized. The statement pointed to the grave risks posed by attacks on regional energy and transport hubs, including the disruption of the Strait of Hormuz, which threatens the global supply chain for medical and essential goods. By backing this resolution, the UAE is pushing for stronger international accountability and the establishment of robust mechanisms to monitor and mitigate the long-term impact of these hostilities on public health and psychosocial well-being.
