Fake Police Officers Rob Salesman of Dh1.7 Million in Dubai

Tue, May 12, 2026(101d ago)UAE

Dubai authorities are investigating a brazen robbery after a company representative was swindled out of Dh1.7 million by individuals posing as police officers. The victim, an Egyptian salesman, had just finished collecting payments for wholesale electronics in the Al Muteena area when he was approached in an elevator by two men claiming to be with the Criminal Investigation Department. The encounter quickly turned violent; the imposters assaulted the salesman in the building’s lobby, seized his bag filled with cash, and fled the scene. Investigators believe the heist was meticulously planned, noting that the perpetrators appeared to have prior knowledge of the victim’s routine and movements.

In response to the crime, a dedicated police task force was deployed to review surveillance footage and track the suspects. Their efforts led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of Dh728,000, while the rest of the stolen funds had already been spent. Dubai Police have since issued a stern reminder to the public, emphasizing that legitimate law enforcement officers do not conduct spot checks in such an unprofessional manner. Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, verify the credentials of anyone claiming to be authority figures, and report any suspicious activity immediately to ensure community safety.
