Sharjah Announces Extended Eid Al Adha Break for Government Staff

Tue, May 12, 2026(101d ago)UAE

Government employees in Sharjah are set for an extended respite during the upcoming Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha period. According to the Sharjah Department of Human Resources, the official holiday for public sector workers will run from Monday, May 25, through Friday, May 29. Because the emirate operates on a unique four-day workweek—observing weekends from Friday to Sunday—this designated break effectively grants staff a 10-day period off before they return to their desks on Monday, June 1. While this schedule applies to most departments, those operating on shift rotations will adjust their hours based on specific service requirements.

This holiday alignment extends beyond the government sector, as schools across the region are also synchronizing their calendars for the occasion. Both the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the Sharjah Private Education Authority have confirmed that private school students will enjoy the same break dates, which also translates to a 10-day hiatus for students accustomed to the four-day school week. Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Education has solidified these dates for its own staff and students, ensuring a unified holiday schedule across federal entities as the country prepares to observe this significant religious occasion.
