Dubai Tightens Signage Regulations for Local Businesses
The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), in collaboration with the Dubai Civility Committee, has issued a fresh reminder to business owners regarding the city’s strict storefront signage regulations. These guidelines, which stem from the 2024 Outdoor Advertising Manual developed by the RTA and Dubai Municipality, are designed to elevate the city’s aesthetic appeal. By enforcing these global standards, officials aim to ensure that commercial outlets contribute positively to Dubai’s urban environment rather than creating visual clutter.
Under the current rules, shop owners must adhere to several key requirements: signs must be displayed horizontally with the Arabic text positioned above the English, and only one trade name is permitted per facade. Additionally, signs must remain static, avoiding any animated or moving content, and must feature controlled lighting rather than harsh, bright white backgrounds. The regulations also restrict the size of signs to ensure they are proportionate to the storefront and prohibit the placement of advertisements on balconies or upper-floor facades. The DET continues to oversee the permit process and will conduct regular inspections to ensure all businesses maintain these high standards of visual refinement.
