Mohamed Alabbar: Middle East Conflict is Economically Unsustainable
Mohamed Alabbar, the influential chairman of Emaar Properties and Eagle Hills, recently expressed a firm belief that the current geopolitical instability in the Middle East cannot persist long-term. Speaking at the launch of a $20 billion development in the Maldives, he highlighted how global powers like India and China, along with the involved nations themselves, are feeling the mounting pressure of rising energy and food costs. Alabbar remains hopeful that wise leadership will eventually steer the region toward stability, suggesting that a return to normalcy in the property market could follow shortly after conditions improve.
In terms of his business strategy, Alabbar is adopting a patient approach, particularly regarding the high-profile Creek Tower project, which remains on hold until regional tensions settle. Meanwhile, Eagle Hills continues to hunt for global opportunities, eyeing potential massive waterfront developments in India and Syria that mirror their successful projects in places like Serbia and Egypt. Despite the company’s extensive international footprint, Alabbar firmly dismissed any talk of an IPO, stating that taking the company public is not part of their future strategy.
