Abu Dhabi Police Crack Down on Littering from Vehicles

Fri, Jun 19, 2026(2h ago)UAE

In the UAE, traffic safety isn't just about avoiding accidents; it is also about maintaining the country's high standards of public cleanliness. Recently, the Abu Dhabi Police released footage showing various motorists and delivery riders discarding trash directly from their vehicles while on the road or parked. Authorities are highlighting these incidents to remind residents that such careless habits not only harm the environment and public health but also tarnish the emirate’s sophisticated reputation.

To discourage this behavior, the authorities have reiterated that littering from a vehicle is a serious offense under Article (71) of the UAE Traffic Law, carrying a penalty of Dh1,000 and six traffic points. Beyond standard traffic fines, broader environmental regulations can impose penalties ranging from Dh2,000 for discarding items like cigarette butts to as much as Dh4,000 for leaving waste in unauthorized areas. By bringing these incidents to light, the police hope to instill a sense of social responsibility, urging everyone to dispose of their waste properly and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable community.
