Fujairah Launches Conservation Drive to Protect Sea Turtles During Nesting Season
The Fujairah Environment Authority has introduced a new set of protective measures as the emirate enters its peak sea turtle nesting season, which spans from March through June. Following the discovery of active nesting spots near the Al Fqait Protected Area and the coastline by the Royal Beach Hotel and Resort in Dibba, conservation teams have increased their patrols. Officials are calling on the public to act as stewards of the environment by minimizing their impact on these sensitive habitats and reporting any sightings of turtles or hatchlings to help ensure their survival.
To support these conservation efforts, beachgoers are asked to maintain a respectful distance from the animals, utilize only low-level lighting, and keep the shorelines free of plastic waste. It is strictly prohibited to touch the turtles, use camera flashes, set up equipment on the sand at night, or engage in activities like camping and bonfire lighting during this period. Residents who encounter nesting sites or turtle tracks are encouraged to document the location and reach out to the authorities immediately via the dedicated hotline at 800TURTLE or email [email protected] so that specialized rescue teams can provide the necessary assistance.
