Vessel Runs Aground Near Oman’s Al Hallaniyat Islands; No Oil Leak Detected

Fri, Jul 3, 2026(45d ago)World

Environmental authorities in Oman have confirmed that a ship recently ran aground near the Al Hallaniyat Islands, a protected marine reserve located in the Dhofar Governorate. Following the incident, a technical team was immediately dispatched to the site on July 1 to conduct a thorough inspection. Preliminary water samples from the surrounding coastal areas have been collected for analysis, and officials are working closely with the National Committee for Emergency Management to oversee the situation and ensure that comprehensive contingency plans remain in place.

Despite concerns regarding the area's sensitive ecosystem, authorities have reassured the public and local residents that there is currently no evidence of an oil spill or environmental contamination. The Al Hallaniyat archipelago, which is known for its rich marine biodiversity and status as a vital habitat for sea turtles and dolphins, continues to be monitored closely. Officials have urged the public to rely solely on official communications and avoid circulating unverified rumors while the situation is being managed and the vessel is assessed.
