Diplomatic Push for Gaza: Kushner and Hamas Seek Breakthrough in Egypt
Jared Kushner, serving as a senior envoy for Donald Trump, recently held high-level discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to push forward a post-war roadmap for the Gaza Strip. These meetings coincided with separate consultations between Hamas leader Khalil El-Hayya and Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad. The core objective of these discussions is to resolve the long-standing impasse regarding the implementation of a 15-point ceasefire plan, which includes contentious requirements such as the total disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli military forces from the territory.
While Hamas has publicly signaled its readiness to commit to the framework—including a willingness to hand over weaponry to a new governing body—the plan faces significant resistance from Israeli leadership. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently opposed the terms, insisting that Israeli forces will maintain their presence in Gaza until the militant group is entirely disarmed. As Kushner prepares to continue his diplomatic tour in Israel, mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are working to bridge the gap and pressure all involved parties to honor their original obligations under the ceasefire agreement.
