France Reports Over 2,000 Excess Deaths Following June Heatwave
According to recent statements from French health authorities, the country experienced a significant spike in mortality rates during the intense heatwave that struck in late June. Health Minister Stephanie Rist confirmed that between June 22 and June 28, the nation recorded approximately 2,025 more deaths than would typically be expected for that time of year.
Rist cautioned that these figures are preliminary and likely represent only a portion of the total impact. As officials continue to analyze mortality data from the period, it is anticipated that the final tally of excess deaths may rise, highlighting the severe health risks posed by the extreme temperatures experienced across the region.
