Tragedy in Thailand: 10 Monks Killed After 11-Year-Old Crashes Truck Into Procession
A devastating incident in Thailand’s Mukdahan province has left ten monks dead following a horrific collision during a religious pilgrimage. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday when an 11-year-old boy, who had taken his parents' pickup truck without their knowledge, lost control and drove directly into a procession of 35 monks and five lay followers. While five victims tragically passed away at the scene, the death toll unfortunately rose to ten after five more succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Currently, ten others remain under medical care, with two individuals still listed in critical condition.
Local authorities have confirmed that the young driver cannot be held criminally liable due to his age, as Thai law does not prosecute children under 12. Consequently, the boy has been referred to child welfare services for evaluation, with his mother present to assist with the process. Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation by gathering accounts from surviving witnesses. The monks, who are deeply revered figures in Thai society responsible for upholding Buddhist traditions, are being supported by their local temple, Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Manorom, which has stepped in to provide care for those who survived the ordeal.
