Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Reaches 80% Completion, Set to Revolutionize Dubai Traffic
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reached a major milestone, with the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project now 80% complete. Spanning 1,650 meters, this ambitious tunnel will feature three lanes in each direction, capable of managing a flow of 12,000 vehicles per hour. As a vital component of the broader Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, it is designed to seamlessly link the Infinity Bridge with Deira and the surrounding residential and commercial hubs, including Dubai Islands and the Waterfront Market. By 2030, this initiative is expected to drastically improve connectivity, potentially cutting travel times across the area from over an hour and a half down to just 16 minutes.
Beyond the engineering feats—which involve round-the-clock excavation and a massive workforce—the tunnel is set to become a unique urban landmark. The RTA is integrating Emirati art into the design, featuring mosaic patterns inspired by Dubai’s iconic skyline and economic history, creating a visually engaging experience for commuters. Simultaneously, the RTA is moving forward with a new 1,425-meter bridge over the Dubai Creek, which will further bolster the city's transport capacity. These combined efforts reflect Dubai’s commitment to world-class infrastructure that prioritizes both logistical efficiency and aesthetic cultural identity to support the city's rapidly growing population.
