UAE Warns of Global Economic Crisis Over Strait of Hormuz Threats
The United Arab Emirates has issued a stern warning regarding the potential for global economic instability should threats to the Strait of Hormuz continue. During a recent dialogue at the UN General Assembly, Sarah Al Awadhi, First Secretary at the UAE’s Permanent Mission, highlighted that the waterway is not merely an energy corridor but a vital artery for international trade and food security. She emphasized that Iran’s interference and unlawful threats have already led to inflated transportation costs and increased insurance premiums, which are destabilizing global supply chains.
Beyond the immediate impact on oil and gas, the UAE pointed out that disruptions in this maritime passage are significantly inflating the cost of essential agricultural inputs, such as nitrogen fertilizers, which have spiked by as much as 80 percent. This volatility places an immense burden on nations already struggling with food insecurity. The UAE is now calling for a unified international effort to uphold maritime law, ensure freedom of navigation, and protect the global economy from being held hostage by the unilateral actions of a single state.
