Dubai Gold Prices Dip Ahead of Festive Season
Gold prices in Dubai experienced a notable downturn on Friday morning, erasing the majority of the previous day’s gains. The 24K gold rate dropped by Dh9.5 to trade at Dh487.5 per gram, a significant retreat from Thursday’s close of Dh497. This trend was mirrored across other purities, with 22K, 21K, and 18K variants seeing similar price corrections. Market analysts attribute this volatility to global economic pressures, particularly rising oil costs and mounting inflation concerns, which have impacted precious metal valuations worldwide.
This sudden price shift arrives at a critical time for the local market, coinciding with the lead-up to Dhanteras and Diwali, periods traditionally marked by high demand for physical gold. While the immediate market is reacting to short-term global fluctuations, experts like Vijay Valecha of Century Financial note that the cultural and financial importance of gold in the UAE remains robust. He emphasizes that while consumers traditionally buy for festivals, modern investors are increasingly viewing gold as a vital tool for portfolio diversification, urging them to carefully weigh the differences between physical gold, ETFs, and other financial instruments amidst the current economic landscape.
